Monday musings–

Well, it’s Monday again.   The Mariners won Saturday and lost Sunday—pretty much the norm for them these days.

Did Alexis mention she got a parakeet for Mother’s Day?  The little feather duster  keeps Alexis company when she’s working.  Seems Jubilee is very choosy about the music she listens to.  She had a definite preference for Bon Jovi and Trace Adkins, especially his Red Hot Mama song.  Didn’t know parakeets were so particular.  <g>

Hunter seems to be taking up a lot of Alexis’s time these days.  She’s written the first three chapters of his story.  I’d complain about her neglecting the rest of us, but I figure the sooner she gets through with his book, the sooner she’ll start thinking about the next Paladin book after his.  I’m being extra nice to her and keeping my fingers crossed.   Anyone know if she likes chocolates?

She also got the preliminary cover art for Jarvis’s book, Darkness Unknown.  If it tells you anything, she squealed when saw it and then immediately went out and bought a box of chocolates for  the Art Department at Pocket.  I think I’ve convinced her to post the cover here as soon as she gets a jpeg of it, but that may be awhile  yet.

The barrier was quiet over the weekend,  but I was on duty anyway.  I got caught up on some reading.  I just started Jim Butcher’s SMALL FAVORS.  God, I love his smart ass sense of humor.   If you’ve never read the Dresden Files books, you should give them a try.  It’s  one of those series you should read in order, by the way.  I spend a lot time chuckling and then tensing up when things go bad for Harry.

Well, I’ve got some computer stuff to do—insert evil laugh here, btw.  I feel the need to play tag with a worthy opponent .   Hope  your week is off to a good start.

  1. Morning DJ-Sorry about the Mariners I feel your pain but with hockey the Red Wings are killing the Pens :-(
Oh well at least we took the division which is better than what we did the last few years. But Nascar comes to PA this week and it will be off to the races for me this weekend :-)
So DJ I noticed you avoided blogging about our comments last week-how come?Come on admit it we scare you sometimes? (hehe)
Glad to hear the barriers been staying up and your all staying safe, and as for your book dear, well we all hope you get one someday but we’re not willing to let you go from the blog(just so your aware)
Alexis-We will all anxiously be awaiting the sneak peak at Jarvis’s cover, and may I say Jubilee has wonderful taste in music-Trace is a favorite of mine! Gotta love those big rough cowboys!

  2. That’s a great way to look at it, D.J.: The sooner she finishes Hunter’s book and he gets his happily ever after, the sooner you can get yours. I think chocolate would be a good bribe. I don’t know a single woman who doesn’t love chocolate. But, hey, if Alexis turns out to be the only one, try pralines. Those are my personal weakness.
Now I have to go look at last week’s comments and see what I missed. I hate when work gets in the way of fun, which was the case last week :-)

  3. Morning D.J.! Don’t forget that Alexis likes tea and she did buy that new teapot set with the dancing pigs. Maybe a nice gift basket with tea and chocolate and other goodies?

I haven’t read Jim Butcher but I’ve read his wife’s two books. Shannon is an amazing writer and I can’t wait for her next book.

Glad the barrier was quiet and I feel sorry for whomever you are planning to toy with. You are dangerous when you are bored. LOL

Kelley – You lucky girl! Enjoy you NASCAR time!

    Stay Safe!

    Stacy

P.S. Can’t wait for the cover of Jarvis’ book!

  4. DJ a quick little lesson that worked for my husband…. we went dutch treat to McDonalds and he asked for my advice on how to get this woman interested in him. Told me ALL about this woman… I gave him GREAT advice… so great we were married 3 years before I realized that the girl’s name he’d used was his SISTERS and the situation she was in was mine…. 20 years later we’re still going strong.

I’ve heard from a lot of folks that the Dresden Files books are good… guess I need to add them to my find and buy list.

  5. Delilah, that’s one of the sweetest (most conniving) love stories I’ve ever heard. What a great guy! He probably asked his sister for advice on how to get you to McDonald’s with him – LOL.

sorry about the Mariners, DJ. But, you know, a win a loss….equals out.

I’m now clearing out my office to make room on my desk, and inside my head for the new characters. (g) Which means, I’ll likely stop in here more often in the next few days.

Dying to see the new cover!

    Bonnie

  6. Bonnie – the EXACT line to get me to McDonalds… “What the hell is it with women anyway? Can’t I just want someone to sit across the table from me and talk to while I eat?”

  7. DJ, So glad to hear that you are keeping busy! ;-) I won’t say be good, but I will say be safe (but not TOO safe). As for Alexis – always chocolate – but to be REALLY romantic, how about a gift certificate to McCormick & Schmicks for her and her hubby! It’s a great great place and I read that there are 3 in the Seattle area.
Delilah, That is just a fabulous story!
Bonnie, I don’t know if anyone else said it, so I will – from all of us – CONGRATULATIONS! On finishing your book! and A big WELL DONE, too. (‘Cause we all know it *is* well done!)

    Bless All!
    Caron

  8. OH DJ… something women like better than chocolates or roses… I know it was my valentine’s gift… a cleaning service for a few hours.

  9. Kelly, I’m really sorry about the Penguins but then again…I live outside Detroit. And enjoy the NASCAR…we don’t go anymore. When we did, the DH would end up working the race in the pits and I’d sit alone in the stands…boring. Much nicer from my easy chair :D

Okay, DJ…I wanna know…are there *really* any worthy computer opponents out there? Seems to be maybe Cullen…maybe…or are you hunting for a terminal to hack? I bet I know whose it would be ;)

  10. AWWW That is so sweete Delilah! Gatta love how they win with those kind of lines.

Night I’m right there with you…. GO WINGS!!!!

DJ, I’m glad you have a nice weekend. Mine was anything but! Kids, birthday parties and well, a weekend with out wine was not a weekend I can enjoy to the fullest! To top it all off my Sister in law came to visit till Tuesday! (AHHHHH)
Something that us girls (well me) like even more then cleaning service, and stuff…. time! If you can bottle some up!

  11. Strohs! Did you used to drink it? While it was still around?

And the GAME is starting!! WOOT!

I too have a sister in law…I’d stay at a hotel if she stayed with us though. She’s like a Nazi General…*sigh*

DJ, get a girl who’s an only…you’re better off. Or has a great brother who shares your interest, like Barak and Penn…

  12. I’m glad everyone’s weekend was good DJ I’d deffinately go with chocolates Delilah lovely story Bonnie congrats on finishing the book Kelly enjoy your nascar race

  13. DJ glad to hear your weekend was quiet. If you like Butcher, try Mark delFranco. Love his books. Everyone here in Ohio is waiting for Junior to hit HR #600. And there’s a new player named Jay Bruce who has played about 4 games and hit a HR in each. The streets are empty during game time.
Chocolates are a good idea (dark is my favorite) but what about a gift certificate to her favorite book store? Hmm, what would I do for that….
Who are you playing tag with? Are you tormenting Kincaid? Spill!
BTW, ladies, I picked up Gena Showalter’s book on your rec. Now I need the second one in the series. Great read!

  14. Wendy,

I picked up the second one (the darkest kiss) on Thursday in my local walmart…. I didn’t think it was to be out till TODAY… but YEAH!!!! My TBR pile has grown, so I might get to read it before the 3rd comes out at the end of the month… ENJOY!

  15. Okay ladies I know there’s some redwing fans out there-it’s Tuesday morning and what a morning it is in Pgh! How many stayed up to watch that fantastic hockey game last night?
DJ a little advice on how to function with little or no sleep?

  16. From DJ to Kelley: I have one word for you: Caffeine.

Alexis here: I’m a mess this morning. The latest JR Ward book is being released today, and I’ve ordered it from Rhapsody Book Club to get it in hardback. But that means I can’t read it today. I’ve been known to breakdown and buy JR’s books in paperback anyway because I can’t wait until the hardback arrives. BTW, I enjoyed the Showalter books, too. I love the guy who can’t speak the truth. He’s a nice touch of humor in the darkness. I also see Christine Warren’s new book is out. And of course everything I’ve ordered at the library is coming in at once. So many books and so little time . . . . especially when I’m supposed to be busy writng my own.

And I’ve found two other bands my Jubilee likes–The Randy Rogers Band and Cross Canadian Ragweed. I envy those of you in the Midwest and South because it seems those two bands tend to tour there most of the time. I keep waiting for them to hit th Pacific NW.
    Alexis

  17. It always seems that the writers I enjoy put out their books at the same time. Usually July/August or January.

  18. Alexis, the guy who can only tell lies is cute, but it’s Kane who stole my heart in that series. He’s the one housing the spirit of disaster and roofs keep caving in on his head. Poor guy! I pre-ordered Lover enshirined, too, but yeah, now I’m not sure I can wait for it to get here.
And speaking of books I can’t wait for, hope things are going well with Hunter. And when can we expect an interview with Ranulf? We probably have to wait until closer to the release date huh?
You should introduce D.J. to Sister Hazel. That’s one of my favorite bands and I think their song “Out There” is one of the sweetest things ever written!

  19. Alexis here: Thanks for the suggestion, Jackie. I’ll check them out. right now Jubilee is having a squawk fest, singing along with Randy Rogers–I think she likes male singers with gravelly voices. I really love his voice, and he’s done some great songs.

  20. I liked Kane too, mainly because if there’s anybody else in the world who carries a little disaster around with them, it’s me. I can relate. :)

  21. Alexis, I thought you were going to try and post a picture of your little Jubilee! Still waiting.

Kelly, I’d have much rather won the Cup here, in Detroit, but Pittsburgh will do in a pinch. At least the Wings will bring it home here :D

I have a confession…I loved the first four Ward books, brilliant! Threw LU across the room and took LEn off my preorder and seeing the feedback already in the threads on Amazon…I’m glad I did. *sigh* And no, don’t throw rocks at me!! I just love Paranormal Romance, not Urban Fantasy…

  22. Alexis – Love Enshrined is a good read. It is over 500pages so be sure you have some quiet time!! I ordered it in HC too but I buy the paperback so I can read it right away. I found it in my local Walmart last week. Couldn’t find the new Christine Warren book so I’ve ordered that one from BN. And I can’t wait for the 3rd book in Gena’s new series.

Nightsmusic – I loved the first 3 books in the BDB series. Loved, loved, loved. After that, not so much but I will tell you that LE is a good read just don’t expect a lot of romance. But I’m with you I like Paranormal ROMANCE!!!! LOL

    Stay Safe!

    Stacy

  23. Alexis here–Thanks for that update, Stacy L. I don’t expect any of the books to be as good as Zsadist’s story, but I love J R Ward’s use of language when she writes. As long as there’s the occasional mention of what’s up with the Z-man these days, I’ll be happy.
I read a lot of urban fantasies as well as paranormal romances, but the romances are still my favorites.

  24. Stacy, I’m really in the minority when I say I love Butch. Marissa was a bit of a dud, but loved his story. I ended up skimming the entire last half of LU I was so disappointed with the whole story. And like I said, UF is SO not my thing…it’s probably one of the very few genres I don’t read. So, unfortunately, no more Ward for me. But, that’s just me!

Alexis, there was quite a bit of Z in LU. You must have been so happy ;) Really, I thought his and JM’s interactions were good scenes. I just didn’t see the ‘hero’ of the book in more then oh…a third of it and to me, that’s not what I want when I read for the romance. If I want paranormal mystery/thriller, I’ll read Preston and Child’s Pendergast series. That is awesome. But not romance at all.

That’s why I love the Paladins though! They’re hero is the focus of the story. As he should be. :D

  25. Alexis – I have to admit that I need romance in my books. I’m not ashamed to admit it. LOL And you will see Z in this book several times as he and Phury hash out their issues. You’ll have to let me know what you think after you read it.

nightsmusic – I know this will sound crazy but….haven’t we met before? LOL Your sign in name is so familiar. Was it on Jacki Frank’s board? And Ward’s books are no longer being marketed as romance on the spine. I sure do miss her style from the first 3 books. **sigh**

I need to check on dinner and then it is back to Jessica Andersen’s Nightkeepers!

    Stacy

  26. Not romance? Hmmm that’s a turn in a direction I don’t like, but I’ll keep reading, like somebody else said, just for a glimpse of Zsadist. Still am harboring high hopes for Lover Enshrined though. Admittedly, LU wasn’t my favorite in the series (though V is one of my favorite characters), but I did enjoy it. Haven’t read Christine Warren. I’ll have to add her to my list.

  27. Stacy, I miss it too. Her style of romance. *sigh*

Did you post in the LU threads on Amazon? I didn’t dare on her board so I released my angst there instead…

And sorry, Alexis. Didn’t mean to hijack the blog.

  28. nightsmusic – I didn’t post on the LU threads on Amazon. **sigh** You just seem sooooo familiar. LOL

Jackie – Definitely add Christine Warren to your list. I recommend reading her series in order. The series actually comes kind of in two parts. There is the mass market part of the series and then the earlier books that I bought as ebooks because it was sooooo much cheaper than tracking down paper versions. I think someone on another board mentioned that she thought they were going to release the earlier stories as print copies because of demand. If you read Lora Leigh’s Breed Series it was the same way. EC now has all the earlier books available in print. I highly recommend her books also.

Bonnie – I was a total bonehead and forgot to congratulate you on finishing your book! Way to go!!! I hope you get to relax a little before you have to start the next one.

Alexis – Have you gone out and bought LE yet???????? LOL

    Have a great night everyone!

    Stacy

  29. Alexis here- No, I didn’t go out today and buy the book, but I’m meeting a friend for coffee at a Barnes and Noble on Thursday and have a feeling I won’t have enough willpower to walk out of the store without it.

And Nightmusic, I seriously love Butch, but it’s his relationship with Vishous that drove his story as well as Vishous’s book for me. The romances were both secondary as far as I was concerned. Seeing two men who had become so isolated even among their own kind (cops for Butch, vamps for V), reach out and establish such a powerful bond with each other was amazing to me.
    Have a great night everybody!

  30. Funny you should mention Butch and V’s relationship, Alexis. I LOVED that!! And even though that’s not my thing, they would have been a great couple, she wrote them so very well! I laughed, cried, worried with them, hurt with them, felt terrible for V after the conversion, when he stood there watching what he knew he would never have. Gads, what emotion she put into them…sadly now, that too seems to have fallen by the wayside. *sigh*

And to think, it all started with the Sox… ;)

I don’t mean to say at all that she’s not still a wonderful writer. I just don’t go for that genre and can’t…if I have to grit my teeth to get the the middle of the book, hoping it will get better, then the book just isn’t my type of reading.

Bonnie! Congrats on finishing another book :D Big load off there, huh? And now, do you play a bit before starting the next one? I couldn’t. My secondary character was screaming for his own story. I tried to shut him up for a couple days, but it didn’t work. *sigh*

Alexis, thank you again for letting us sidetrack a bit here. :) And give DJ a hug for me too. ;)

  31. Stacy! I meant to tell you, I am on a couple of message boards though there are only two that I really frequent. One because I’m a moderator there and another because I’m a Scot and love the community. I have a blog I haven’t touched in ages (shame on me) and I hang around Amazon sometimes, depending on the book. But that’s about it for me.

I hope we didn’t get into an argument! I am just a tad opinionated and sometimes it gets me into trouble…

  32. LOL. No, nightsmusic – we never got in an argument. I think I have you confused with nightmagic from another website. I chat with her all the time. **sigh** I hate getting old and confused. LOL I’ll be 40 in July but my memory is HORRIBLE. LOL

And talking about good books….so, Alexis, how is Hunter’s book coming along? LOL Everytime I go to BN I walk out with a book, even if I didn’t have anything on my buy list for that day!!! There is a reason I have 200 books in piles I haven’t read yet…..

Have a great day everyone! I’m cleaning house and then I have my daughter’s end of school party. I can’t believe another school year is already over!

    Stay Safe.

    Stacy

  33. everyone I just wanted to sugest that you all read Brenda Joyce’s the Dewarenne Dynasty starting with The Conqueror then read them in order.

    stay safe everyone
    Stacey H.

  34. Amen, Nightmusic! And Hunter’s book is coming along fine. I should pass page 100 this week, so that’s good. I’m also doing the copyedits on Jarvis’s book, so I’m totally immersed in the Paladin world this week.

    Alexis

  35. Can’t wait! Do you have a sort of release date for Jarvis yet? And what is the mythical deadline for Hunter (since they always give you one, hoping you’ll meet it) :|

  36. Happy writing Alexis! Let us know if you need any encouragement. Tea, chocolate, blue plaid p.j.s…..:)

Still cleaning house and not getting to read…GRRRRR

    Stacy

  37. Hey y’all…bought ward’s book yesterday and finished it last night. let’s just say it’s…different. and that all i’m saying. but some of y’all are right, it seems she is stepping a little further away from the romance, which is what brought her to my attention in the beginning. it’s different though, kind of like km moning’s new series. anyhow, bonnie, congrats on the new book (just finished that first one i got and it was great); alexis, looking forward to ranulf’s, and jarvis, and hunter, and on and on and….

have a good rest of the week.

  38. Alexis here–Jarvis’s book, Darkness Unknown, will be out the last week of January, 2009, so in about 7 1/2 months, give or take. I have to have Hunter’s book done and to my editor by Oct. 1, so I have about 3 1/2 months to finish it, although I’m hoping to finish it sooner than that. I’m already starting to plot out the next Talion book as well as the next Paladin book, so my mind alternates between going 100 mph and gridlock.

  39. hehehehe, I’ve been in gridlock for the past two weeks. I’m lucky to eke out three or four sentences a day and it’s not that I don’t have the story, it’s that on paper, it’s all crap…

StacyL! Did you get your housework done? You could do like me, ignore it because it sure as heck will still be there tomorrow :)

  40. Understand the alternating between 100mph and gridlock. I’m in gridlock right now. But spending the time reading Sherrilyn Kenyon’s new B.A.D. book…

  41. Delilah, Thanks for reminding me about the new BAD book. I totally forgot it was coming out. I got sidetracked catching up with Lynsay Sands’ Argenaeu (spelling?) series. And Janet Evanovich’s latest Plum novel comes out this month and I have to make sure I am able to attend her signing. DJ, I love you guys. Stay safe. And, Alexis, thanks so much for telling us their stories.

  42. Nightsmusic – The housework is NOT done. LOL I have friends coming into town next week and we are all going to a beach house for a long weekend. Even though my house is just the meeting place (only one friend is spending the night here) I still feel the need to clean every nook and cranny, floor board, closet, etc. Insane, I know. LOL

Alexis – Glad to hear the book is coming along. Can’t wait to read the first Talion book. Then I’m sure I’ll be torn as to which I want more, Talions or Paladins. Actually, I know the answer to that….I’ll want D.J.’s story no matter what!

    Have a great evening everyone!

    Stacy
I planning to take a break now and do some reading.

  43. Stacy…

I’ll admit I wasn’t sure I’d like the Talion books…. and for purely selfish reasons.. if Alexis is writing a Talion book, she can’t work on a Paladin book. BUT… DANG IT! She made me like the Talions almost as much as the Paladins…. So, yeah you’ll be torn.

  44. Well a congratulations goes out to all you redswing fans! But being a hard core Pittsburgh fan we are still proud of our pens….
Delilah I’m right there along with you on the Talion books, but I can’t imagine liking them more than the Paladins :-) So Alexis keep writing!
Alexis where’s DJ been? I don’t know about the other ladies but I’m starting to feel neglected, at least last week I had Delilah’s pictures to drool over (haha).
Well ladies I hope you all have a great weekend-Paladins I hope the barrier stays up-I’m off to the Poconco’s for Nascar

  45. Kelley – Have fun!! I just get to watch my NASCAR on t.v. **sigh** LOL

Delilah – You are truely an evil, evil woman to remind us that you have gotten a peak at the Talions and the rest of us have to wait. LOL Can’t wait to see what pics you come up with for them!

And I have to ask….Alexis, did you get LE when you met your friend? I’m such a pest I know!

    Have a great day everyone!

    Stacy

  46. Stacy H. — No, I haven’t read that series. What kind of books are they?
Stacy L. — I’m leaving to meet my friend in half an hour, so only time will tell. I did check and Rhapsody has shipped my hardback copy, so I’m hoping that will strengthen my resolve. I know, fat chance! But I’ll let you know.

DJ is fine–he’s just wallowing in a pool of self-pity because the Mariners are now over 15 games out of first place and the season’s not half over yet. Lord knows how bad it will be by the All Star break.

At least it isn’t raining today–at least so far. ;-D

  47. Aww Kelly… thanks… I am working on a very involved group shot… but the crew is having trouble picking their wardrobe…. right now a couple of the boys are arguing over one outfit….

    Stacy L – have I ever said I’m not?

Don’t follow baseball but ummm how hard is 15 games to make up?

  48. It has definitely been raining here, though. Wed. night the tornado sirens went off and when I turned the TV on, there was a tornado due to hit my town in 13 minutes. (Panic ensues). Two brief touchdowns, no injuries, but when I went outside (yes, I’m stupid) you could HEAR it go by. Last night there was the mother of all severe thunderstorms and the power for the whole town was knocked out. Took 14 hours for us to get partial power back. Reading by flashlight is NOT fun. 8 inches of rain in 24 hours.

But in between tornado sirens and lightning bolts, I did buy Gena Showalter’s 2nd book.

  49. Heather, thank you for the kind words on my book. And thanks for all the congrats on finishing the Blaze book. It was sent off and then some family stuff took my attention for a few.

I’m pleased as punch about the Wings…although it’s time the Cup came home….just sayin’.

Delilah admitted to being selfish about the time spent on the Talions….not to worry! It’s worth every moment Alexis puts into it. Believe me, she’s got fab plans. tee hee

And, sometimes, it’s a good thing for a writer to take a mental break from a set of characters. It allows for percolating time. So, when it’s DJ’s turn his story will crackle!

I’ve had a few days off from the writing, but ended up filling it with family time…so, today! YAY!~ I’m heading out for a relaxing facial at a spa. I booked it months ago, knowing I would be finished that book. Heck, by the end, I’ll look a whole 15 minutes younger!

I thought I’d check in here for a couple minutes before printing out my next one and “uploading” it into my headspace so that I can start work . I’ve got a couple chapters to read and the synopsis…but here I am, like half an hour later…reading over 50 posts! From housework, to sports, to writing, to JR WARD…this group’s the most fun on the net.

On the way to my facial, I’ll grab the next Ward. Not very romantic, though, huh? Bummer.

And Stacy…I LOVE Butch, too. Always did…right from the get go. I’m fascinated by him…and his relationship with Z. Very complicated, which is part of the fascination to a writer. How to get that level of complexity in a few lines, is something to try to decipher.

But, I’ve spent far too much of my short day over here…you guys get me thinking all the time. (g)

And I’ve got to get back to work…Playtime’s definitely over!

    Til next time,
    Bonnie

  50. Alexis, please tell DJ to cheer up – the Mariners might not be doing great, but NFL training camps should be starting soon. There’s always the Seahawks.

  51. Bonnie… didn’t say I didn’t like the Talions… just before meeting them I had this – NOOOO… she’s not writing Paladins! reaction… but now I want new books in both series.

  52. Sorry Delilah…I knew what you meant….time away from the Paladins gave you a moment’s pause…

But we’ve both been intro’d to the Talions, right? Everyone here will lurve lurve lurve them. Ranulf…hair flying with the top down.

    must. stop. now.

    B

  53. Stacy…NASCAR is better on TV but then, I’m biased. :)

And did you ever finish that housework?

I have definitely decided not to buy LEn. I’ll just read the first four over and over and over… *sigh* But I’m gonna miss the boys…

I need to read the Talions! What have I been missing?

And yes, I’m so very happy the Wings won, but the Penguins put up a good fight. It’s just that experience, age and arthritis won over youth, unharnessed energy and inexperience this time… :p

  54. We’re being bratty brat brats…

Seriously, I’m trying to read my own work and care about it.

So, I have to leave the computer, take the pages with me to another room and read them.

    Bonnie

  55. nightmusic…check out the excerpt in the Talions section of Alexis’s site.

DJ…sorry dude…but you know you’re number one to us. (g)

The Talions have their own appeal…but I’m betting we never see any of them in the pjs.

    Definitely gone now….honest.

    ahuh,

    gone…

    to work…

    bye…
    really…
    Bonnie

  56. DJ here–
Well, Alexis had to go and jinx us with the comment about it not raining. It’s pouring now. Too bad the Mariners can’t get rained out–the stadium has a moveable roof, which only makes sense in our climate. However, maybe an extra day off will help.

And thanks for the reminder that we’re getting closer to training camp–I think both of my teams did great in the draft.

BTW, Alexis just got back from B&N–she actually had the JR Ward book in her hand, but put it back, determined to wait for the hardback. Now wasn’t that strong of her? Who needs vampires anyway? Well, obviously she does. She did by Christine Warren’s new one, so she has something to keep her going until LE shows up.

Well, I think I’ll go see if I can pick a fight with Lonzo or Larem . . . ahem . . I mean I want to see if one of my friends is in the mood for a workout. Training is important, don’t you know. Besides Alexis saw 300 over the weekend and keeps sighing over how those Spartans looked. Big deal. I’m betting they were all computer enhanced.

  57. OK got a question… I know the Judge found Blake… but how are the rest of the Paladins “found” and with Paladins being hard wired to protect.. why do they tend to abandon their children? Or is it more a case of they don’t know about the child? Because abandoning a child does NOT fit with what I’ve seen of Paladins.

  58. Great questions Delilah. I was thinking about that the other night when I was rereading all the books. How do they know what they are, what they can do and who tells them?

  59. I’ll have to do that. Check out that snippet.

Oh, I just LOVED 300, but no, those abs weren’t CGI…they had a couple big layouts in Men’s Health…those guys worked themselves into the ground for those. It became a matter of pride for all of them to buff up themselves rather than having to rely on airbrushing and stuff.

And I just wanted to pet every one of them. The one that made the most impression though was the one who played the monk in Van Helsing…and how much he buffed up. All I kept seeing was the little monk asking “Why does it smell like wet dog in here?”…

    *snort*

  60. Alexis The Dewarenne Dynasty books are regency romance books the go from the time of william the conqueror to Queen Elizibeth I. DJ chear up you know that we will always love you & the guys Alexis enjoy the new book.

  61. Nightmusic: I know it’s sad, but I actually bought the issue of Mens Health with Gerry Butler on the cover and the story about how he got all muscled up for 300. I think I spent about an hour just looking at th pictures. Still have it somewhere. He’s absolutely yummy! I think I’ll go watch 300 again :-)

  62. DJ, do you think Trahern would come and talk to us? I’d like to know what he thought when he was told he was a Paladin. Did he believe it? Did he think they were nuts? What really convinced him?

  63. Oh, Jackie, Jackie….I still have that magazine too! And it sits on a corner of my desk so I catch glimpses of Gerry during the day…but then again, I’m a bit partial (just click on my name :) )

Come to think of it…I want to know, DJ, who would you choose to play you on the silver screen, since you have to keep a low profile in public so can’t play yourself.

  64. The housework will never be done!!! Well, I’ll stop cleaning when I have to leave to pick my friend up from the airport. LOL

At 8 am my daughter told me she was bored!!!! It is the first day of summer. Yikes!

Alexis – You are a stronger woman than I am! I’m very proud of you. My copy of Christine Warren’s book should arrive today. I need to finish Nightkeepers up but the darn housework (see above) is really getting in my way.

Saw part of 300 last night but when the bad guy drooled on the good guy it really creeped me out and I changed the channel. **Bad Stacy** I know I have to watch it and just appreciate the muscle and not think about the fact that they all die. See, this is why I like my romance books and the HEAs. LOL

    Have a great day everyone!

    Stacy

  65. Oh, and nightsmusic I think I probably like NASCAR on t.v. better to (even though I’ve never been to a live race) because you get all the different views and all the t.v. commentator comments etc.

    Stacy

  66. That, StacyL, and you don’t end up looking like a tomato! Because there is no shade to be had and if the day there is anything like here, which I think it probably will be, there are going to be thousands of hurting fans…

The DH finally got smart and we stopped going, mostly, like I said, because he’d end up in the pits or the trailer working and I’d be alone. I didn’t want to get in the way.

Now, I sit in front of the TV with my wine and fruit and relax while I enjoy it :D

My DH LOVED 300! LOVED it. Right up to the end. When they all died, he started cussing at the TV, the dog, me, the girls, anyone who would listen about how stupid it is to make a movie where everyone dies at the end. I told him ‘you can’t change history’ and he looked at me and asked, ‘You mean that was real?’

    *sigh*

Anyway, I LOVE 300 too. Opening day I went to the IMAX, alone, and watched it in a room full of men… Heaven when they all started Aroo’ing the movie.

    NOW! Finish cleaning!!

    :p

  67. Alexis here–I loved the guy who lost his eye, but it took me a bit to realize he was the guy who played Faramir in LOTR. He looked good in that role, too, but he’d beefed up so much I didn’t recognize him at first. BTW, Jubuilee is singing along with Trisha Yearwoods song about falling for all those bad boys. She’s cracking me up!

I’ll see if I can get Trahern to show up Monday. It wouldn’t hurt him to be sociable once in a while.

And that was a great question about how the Regens find Paladins. They have their ways of monitoring reports of men healing faster than they should, both through connections in the medical community, but also military, police, and fire department records. Since Paladins are genetically driven to serve and protect, they often seek out employment in those fields even if they don’t know what they are. The Regents have kept pretty good records of bloodlines and keep an eye out for the occassional unexpected Paladin popping up. If a Paladin has only daughters, they would carry the trait into the next generation, but not exhibit the Paladin abilities themselves.

  68. OK, DJ, we’ve waited patiently all week. Exactly who have you been torturing on the computer, and what wonderfully evil things did you do to them?

  69. Okay, so it’s been raining and I’ve gotten bored. Now, I do know that Devlin has a lot on his plate, but sometimes he needs someone to tell him to lighten up. Can I help it if the man lost his sense of humor somewhere back in the dark ages? I reprogramed his IPod with a whole new list of songs guaranteed to brighten up anyone’s day–like ‘YOU CAN’T ROLLER SKATE IN A BUFFALO HERD,” ‘DOES YOUR CHEWING GUM LOSE IT’S FLAVOR ON THE BEDPOST OVERNIGHT,” and ‘THEY’RE COMING TO TAKE ME AWAY, HA HA.”

No one appreciates my efforts to improve their lives. Sigh.

Off to hide out for a while–rumor has it Dev was last seen sharpening his favorite sword and muttering my name under his breath.

    DJ

  70. ROFLOL. OMG! D.J., you are priceless. Just priceless and for so very many reasons! If you want to hide, you can head down to Texas and help my daughter with her new Nintendo DS and all the games she got. She made straight A’s for all six weeks of school and the DS and games were her reward. Please Help!!! LOL

Sorry, the weather is bad. But that means Alexis is stuck inside and writing right? LOL I know we are greedy readers, we can’t help ourselves!

And just for nightsmusic, I’m going to go vacuum some more. LOL

    Stacy

  71. Yeah… I can see how a soldier in a war being declared dead, coming back would make the Pentagon get a little jumpy.

and DJ… really – did you exhaust your Dr. Demento collection?

  72. Actually, I’ve been watching Alexis’s collection of Black Adder DVD’s. It’s been awhile since I’ve laughed that hard!
And I’ve also been watching over Alexis’s shoulder to see what she’s said about me in Hunter’s book. I’m hoping to pop in and out of that story a bit more.

    DJ

  73. D.J… if you want to pop in and out of that book… I’m sure you will find a way. You’re a lot sneakier than Cullen and look how he got his own book… sneaky little devil.

  74. Poor Devlin…hehehe…you’re right. Sometimes the man’s just gotta lighten up! Just…stay out of sight for a bit, K? :)

Black Adder! Too funny! I have to say though, my fav Brit comedy is still Monty Python.

OOOH!! You should have put the LumberJack song on Devlin’s iPod too!! :D

  75. Thank a lot, Delilah–now I’m going be singing the spam song all night long. And remember, nobody expects the Spanish Inquistion!

    DJ

(And Alexis has always had a crush on John Cleese!)

  76. DJ… I’ll tell you the secret to getting a tune out of your head. There are three options…

    1. Sing the song ALL the way through.
    2. Give the song to someone else
    3. Replace it with a new song.

and yes #1 does work… I had Scooby Doo theme stuck in my head one day… for HOURS until I sang the entire thing…. felt like an idiot but it worked.

  77. Thanks, Delilah–that first one worked. As soon as I started singing SPAM for about the fourth time, intending to sing it all the way through this time instead of bits and pieces (or if it’s Spam, maybe it should be bites and slices), Lonzo picked up a sword and came after me. Funny how running for your life will knock lyrics right out of your head!

We watched one of Alexis’s favorite movies last night for grins: THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. She owned it on VHS, but found a copy on DVD and bought it the other day. Despite it being made 50 yrs ago, it still was cool.

    Enjoy your Saturday–
    DJ

  78. LOL! Glad it worked. Hopefully it is now stuck in Lonzo’s head…. ultimate revenge – don’t tell him the secret.

  79. Delilah!!! My daughter loves Scooby Doo and now the song is stuck in my head, and I can’t remember the whole thing. GRRRR….We are on our way to Kung Fu Panda so that should get Scooby out of my head!

    Have a great Saturday everyone!

    Stay Safe!

    Stacy

  80. DJ…in those old songs…did you include The Purple People Eater? That’s one that gets stuck on rewind in my head.

Alexis, I’m hoping that a bookseller I chatted with the other day shows up here. If she does, I’ll intro her to the group. She’s a HUGE fan of paranormal romance and would LOVE to read DJ’s blog.

She’s read every Paladin book, was thrilled to learn that The Talions are coming and jotted a note to herself about DJ (yes, I mentioned our little group of … ah….fans)

and I can’t say that I went so far as to pick up a copy of Men’s Health…but I did head to the theatre immediately for 300. IMAX would have been great!

Have I ever said that I saw Spam-A-Lot on Broadway the night before it opened? How cool! David Hyde-Pierce was fabulous. And Tim Curry was wonderful! I was there for a conference and sat with Kerrelyn Sparks and Colleen Thompson. I’d never met them before but we had a blast…I bought the tee shirt. (g)

OK, I’ve read my pages for the next book and on Monday, I’m disappearing for a bit. Time to get the imagination harnessed in the right direction.

…and I’m loving my new characters,

Bonnie (who has a sunny day for the first time in ages!)

  81. OH NO!!! Now I’ve got the Purple People Eater song stuck in my head. And I don’t know all the words to sing it all the way through! Guess I have to find somebody to give it to ;-)

  82. Stacey H—what’s bad is when you find yourself actually doing the dance with the song once it gets stuck in your head.

  83. Even worse, I think, is working out to Richard Simon’s Sweatin’ to the Oldies, hearing the song on a loudspeaker in a public place and having to fight hard not to start doing the routine right there in the store.

    Alexis
