Torch it is . . .

Good morning, everyone!

Don’t know about all of you, but I spent a great weekend wallowing in the wonder of the NFL Playoffs.  Not all of my choices won (so sad the Steelers lost), but a good time was had by all.   Lonzo, Larem, Barak, Hunter, and all of the rest of the usual suspects got together to watch the games at Trahern’s house.  All the ladies watched the games, too, but they had their own party at Devlin and Laurel’s place.  Something about them wanting to actually watch the games, not spend the whole time fetching food and drink for us.  Can’t believe they felt that way.  Seriously, if I was  up anyway, I would have brought Reggie some more pizza or something.  I’m not a complete jerk.

Anyway, Alexis wanted me to announce that her new dragon is officially named Torch!  Karen, if  you’re reading this, send Alexis your address and she’ll send you an autographed copy of of Janice Kay Johnson’s newest book–it’s not even out in the stores yet!

  1. congrats Karen on that new book. have fun next weekend watching more playoff games. I might get to watch them depends on what is going on and if I want to stay up all night. Hope you have a good week.

  2. Which team would you most want to watch, Carrie? I know Alexis can’t wait to watch the Packers–and she’s most worried about the fact the Saints made it to the next level.

  3. Thank you Alexis (& DJ). I am glad you liked the name. If I owned him, that is what I would have called him. I am looking forward to receiving Janice’s newest book. Alexis, I sent you an email with my address – hope you got it!

  4. I don’t know. The tv network will show all the playoff games so its just a matter if I want to stay up. they start showing around 7 pm and not end until the wee hours of the morning. any team is better than the Dallas Cowboys so Packers or saints or anyone else besides the afore mentioned team.

  5. Karen–I got the email and will ship the book.

Carrie–one of the things I most love about sports is the freedom to pick and choose who I’ll cheer for and those I root against for no particular reason other than I want to.

  6. Ashley–
Big Ben fought a valiant battle, but you could tell he was really hurting. They managed to tie it up and go into overtime. Then the Denver quarterback through a long pass that they ran in for a touchdown. Still, the Steelers were in it to the end.

  7. I agree NM. I missed quite a few episodes, so not too sure what is happening now, but I always thought those two were perfect for each other.

  8. I think Abby and McGee would be perfect! I’ve always thought that though. Especially the episode where he saw her pulling her shirt on…he had the perfect expression on his face ;)

  9. I always thought there was something going on between Abby and McGee. It would be nice if they explored that but who knows what the writers will do next.

  10. Carrie –

well, there was! But only in season 1, when McGee didn’t belong to the team yet but made a few appearances. Later they only remained friends.
I’m really looking forward to season nine which starts over here in two weeks time…

  11. I wasn’t watching NCIS except for marathons on USA – But I’m kind of getting hooked. I’m for both pairings Tony/Ziva and McGee/Abby – But I always worry if they finally do get together the show will lose the magic. Bones and Booth on Bones seem to be handling it well so maybe there is hope with good writers.

  12. Sandra-

Season nine already? I think I missed season 7 and 8, but then agian I am not much of a tv watcher more into reading books.

    Delilah-
Of all the episodes of Bones I always thought that she had a thing for Booth. It was just a matter of time before they got together. They were always aguring like a married couple.

  13. Whatever happens, I hope the writers will give us more time to enjoy it than they did with JAG… where it was in the final episode in which Harm and Mac finally, FINALLY got together!

  14. Carrie – I actually prefer the Temperance Brennan Books by Kathy Reichs more. Tempe is older, divorced, working in Canada and North Carolina. I like Booth but I have to admit that Andrew Ryan from the books is so much more interesting.

  15. D, I really, really like Ryan as well.

Commentary: But I didn’t really expect Bones to be the same as the books and I’m glad it’s not. I don’t think the show would have lasted as long if it had been. Unless you live in MI, or one of the few areas outside it* that gets CBC, most people don’t seem to be much interested in Canadian programs or story lines and they tend to wane rather quickly. At least, that’s been my experience. So I’m glad they redesigned it.

*caveat; I have no idea how many other border states get Canadian TV, but the CBC was our third station when TV first came out. *shows age…*

  16. I’ve enjoyed several Canadian shows. Loved Blood Ties, but only discovered it after it was cancelled. I own both seasons on DVD–loved Henry, the vampire.

I’ve quit watching Bones for the most part. I love the ensemble cast, though. And Booth is great–but then I liked the actor in Angel and Buffy, too.

I loved it when McGee first showed up on NCIS and got a tattoo to impress Abby. And his horror when he found out he’d slept in her coffin, not a sleep box. Then she grinned at him and said something like “That’s not all you did.”

I plan to write a few pages this morning and then zone out in front of the tv with the playoffs. I’ve got some nonfiction to read for a book I’m plotting, so football will make for good background noise while I read.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

  17. Alexis, Blood Ties (which I LOVED, also own both seasons of and am SO sorry they took it off the air, just like Moonlight, but that could be a whole ‘nother rant) was shot in Canada but was an ‘American’ show. If you want to see a superb Canadian program, see if you can get your hands on or find online, This Is Wonderland. Great show, but again, it didn’t last. It was very definitely Canadian though.

  18. LOL! I’m a BBC girl. Love the BBC Being Human – didn’t care for the Americanized version. Primeval is good. Love Dr. Who – especially Matt Smith in the role. They have a new series starting that looks like it will be good – The Fade. Luther – which I haven’t been able to catch looks good as well.

NM – I like Bones the series and I think it’s funny how Kathy Reichs explains it – I write books about the fictional Temperance Brennan and Bones writes books about the fictional Kathy Reichs. I love how in Spider Bones Kathy worked in a plug for Bones.

  19. D, I love the BBC too and I totally agree. The American version of Being Human just isn’t as good. I tried to watch it, made it through about 10 minutes and that was that.

I’m looking forward to The Fades too. Have you ever watched Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares on BBC? He’s like a kitten compared to the lion he is with the American kitchen owners.

  20. WOW! It snowed on Sunday and then again yesterday for awhile. Then it snowed again some through the night, but then it started in early this morning and has yet to stop. We hardly ever get this much. Looks beautiful, but I’m so glad I can stay tucked inside where it’s warm and dry.

Working on a synopsis for a new book idea and liking how it’s going even if writing a synopsis is like pulling teeth.
