Okay, in between football games, I’ve been watching some movies with Alexis. If that doesn’t qualify me for a medal, I don’t know what would. She started off with Sweet November with Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron. Mushy. Tragic. No car chases. No special effects. None of that mattered to Alexis. Personally, my favorite Keanu Reeves movies were Speed, Point Break, Matrix, and the all time classic–Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
The next entry in this weekend’s viewing was definitely a step up even if aimed at a younger audience. We watched the G.I. Joe movie on pay-per-view. Lots of car chases, explosions, sword fighting (I could have given them some tips), and metal eating nanites out to destroy Paris. Evil doers lurking beneath the polar ice cap, and Dennis Quaid’s voice almost as deep as it was in that dragon movie he made years ago with Sean Connery.
Then today I missed part of the pregame shows while she watched a chick flick with John Cusack, Julia Roberts, and Catherine Zeta Jones. Christopher Walken stole the movie, if you ask me, but the Alexis didn’t. Ask me, that is.
Did I mention she’s counting the days until she gets to see Avatar? And maybe Sherlock Holmes?
At least I got to watch the Seahawks win today. My poor Chiefs . . . let’s not go there.
D.J.
Football: UGH!! And then there’s the Cowboy loss (pretty pathetic) and dh’s Redskins who were ahead the whole game until the last minute when the Pats tied it. They then proceded to lose to the Patriots in OT. Ridiculous!
DJ, today is going to be busy! Long shift!!!!! But, I had to stop in here on my way out the door to check on how your weekend went. Have a great day!
Wow, so movie weekend it is!!! I’m waiting till Christmas too… Holmes!!! yummy!!
Oh and let’s not leave the furry kind out at Christmas!! Come on the Chipmunks squeekal comes out Christmas day!!!! I’ll be drivign to Indiana, but I am going to the movies with my writing buddy!!! I’ve almost finished a manuscript rough draft… now to get her to have the time to read it!!! This has been my issue the whole time. With the 3 manuscripts I have done, I don’t have anyone to read them….it sucks.
Alright I’m off to work again… can’t sit still today…
Movies? Well this weekend I watched Night at the Museum 1 and 2 and Aliens. I’m waiting for Sherlock Holmes and Nine to come to the theaters.
Caron – email me I’ll read through them for you.
Good morning! Delilah–I enjoyed Night at the Museum 1 but haven’t seen the second one. I’ve also been rewatching Blood Ties. I really, really wish they would have continued that series. I thought Henry was a great vampire . . . sigh. (Sorry, DJ, I know how you feel about fangs!)
Alexis
Morning!
I am just about OD’d on Christmas movies. Even the DH has been watching them
He hates Christmas movies on principle so I have no idea what’s gotten into him this year.
One of my favorites is Ebbie, which is a cheesy little retelling of A Christmas Carol with Susan Lucci as Ebbie/Elizabeth Scrooge. It’s so lightweight and yet, I find myself crying at the end, every time. I’m such a sap for it. But I’ve watched almost all the Christmas movies that have been on so far this season. And Kate and Leopold when it’s on. I’m not really a chick flick person, but that is one of the few that I really enjoy.
DJ, I think you’re awesome for watching them with Alexis! Sweet
Oh, and one of my favorite Keanu Reeves movies is Parenthood. “That’s the perfect job for me…Crash Dummy!” Love it.
Off to walk the treadmill and then clean. Maybe I’ll even have a chance to write today too. Since I can’t find a job around here anywhere…
Has anyone read the newest part of the short story????? Goodness!!! I about… correct that I DID cry at work!!!!!!!!!
Helpless me I was in tears and all I could do was laugh at myself.
Thanks!
You have to look at last week’s blog post, Strohs! We are planning a shower and you can get the details there
Strohs – What NM said… unfortunately all the guy ran down to the tunnels. I’m thinking that was the first time in the history of Paladins they were almost hoping the barrier would flicker. I think even the Talions were down there.
Ya know, you’d think that Gray would have been all for it, because of all the positive emotions in the room.
And we never heard from Bonnie if any of her sexy men would step up to the plate…
*MY* sexy men? Leave Stack Hamilton out of this one. He dances for Tawny, and she won’t share. Not a bit of him.
Strohs, what a great way to spend the big day! At the movies…talking writing…what fun! Enjoy!
Now off to write!
Bonnie
Well hell’s bells…aren’t there any sexy men that would be willing to dance for us?
I think maybe Danny Glenn…he’s kind of “up” for fun…and willing to display himself naked in public. So, I’ll go ask him.
I’ll let you know what he says.
I really s/b be working, you know. But this joint’s just too much fun to ignore.
Plus, you women always make me grin.
Bonnie
AWESOME BONNIE! And I can send one of my heroes… since his story is still in flux but he is professionally trained….
So, okay…since we’re talking recipes (which btw, we are now: follow along people!)
Check out the great recipes today at: http://www.aphrodisiaauthors.com/blog/
They looks delicious!
Bonnie
Are we going to exchange recipes again? That was soo much fun last year! And paid such dividends for DJ! He cooked this year at Thanksgiving! Yup, still proud of him for that. AND Lonzo and Larem for the pies.
I know my heroes would be ‘up’ for the challenge, though they can be pretty ‘wolfish’ when overtly excited
Recipes? I just got done setting a kielbasa/sauerkraut stew to simmering! We really should do more recipes. I really liked that.
And Bonnie, are you sure Danny is the only one who might be interested?
I need to try that Gingerbread recipe. I have never found ‘just the right one…’ so this ought to be fun.
Oh my, you watched Sweet November, what a sad movie. My daughters made me watch it with them when it came out and it was the last time they conned me into watching a sad movie. Now I always ask them if anyone dies before I will watch it. I prefer the shoot-em up movies so GI Joe would probably be up my alley. Or Transformers 2. Sherlock looks interesting. I just asked my daughter and SIL today when Robert Downey Junior got so buff. They said he was in pretty good shape for Iron Man. I haven’t seen that one yet. I told them to bring it over.
HAAHAA!!!! Ok, so there was lots of posting after i read the last time last week.
My men might be up for it, well Christan would be… but than again I have a whole hord of Demonds that are quite good at dancing… Greed and lust can do that to you…. hummm…. nummy…. sorry, had to shake myself out of that.
Girls recipies sound GREAT!!!!!! I’m up for desserts almost as much as main meals…. slowcooker ideas would be great!!!!! Since I now work out of the house I’m finding I use my cooker alot!
Oh Please share slow cooker recipies! I only have 2! Pot Roast and a chicken and rice.
Slow Cooker Chicken Enchilada Soup
* 1 can (15 Oz.) Black Beans, Rinsed And Drained
* 1 can (14.5 Oz.) Diced Tomatoes
* 1 package (10 Oz.) Frozen Corn
* ½ cups Onion, Chopped
* ½ cups Red Pepper, Diced (optional)
* 1 can (10 Oz) Enchilada Sauce
* 1 can (10 3/4 Oz) Can Condensed Cream Of Chicken Soup
* 1 can evaporated milk
* 4 whole Chicken Breasts (I used frozen from a jumbo bag)
* 1 cup Pepper Jack Cheese, Shredded
Preparation Instructions
In a 3 1/2 to 5-quart slow cooker, whisk together the enchilada sauce and soup. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Add drained beans, tomatoes, corn, onion, and bell pepper. Sink chicken breasts in the mixture.
Cover; cook on low heat for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours.
Remove chicken and cut or shred into bite-sized pieces. Add chicken back into the soup. Top with pepper jack cheese and serve. The soup can also be topped with avocado, sour cream, or crushed tortilla chips.
Note: if the soup is too thick for you, just add a little more milk after it’s all cooked.
We LOVED this the first time I made it. It’s an every other week meal for us now with some corn bread or country biscuits.
The DH is watching different things (channel surfing
) until The Closer comes on. He landed on Carrie Underwood’s special. She has a MinPin and it was on our big screen TV and one of our Dobes tried to poke her nose through the plastic cover on the screen to get to the little doggie. Very cute…but this is the third time I’ve cleaned that screen today.
Carrie Underwood songs can be dangerous! Have 2 characters that showed up just from listening to two of her songs. Cowboy Casanova and Before He Cheats.
Oh on the 15th – Fox is having a cook along with Gordon Ramsey. You can get the shopping list online – then you cook with him as he makes the meal. I’m thinking of taping it so I can rewind as needed and make it at a later date.
Really? I think I’d like to try that. I want to see Julie and Julia. I loved Julia Child and I’d love to go through her cookbook like that. Day by day. I think that would be so cool.
Yeah the menu looks good too… Angel Hair Pasta with Shrimp, Chili and Tomatoes, Steak Diane with sauteed potatoes and peas, and for desert quick Tiramisu. The show is apparently an American version of a popular UK show. I wouldn’t object to the US doing something like that. Food Network is great but everything happens so fast…
Moved on to Blake’s book…. I’m now wondering what the letter was the Judge left him.
Okay–totally off topic here. Does anyone watch BONES? If so, I love Fisher (played by Joel Moore), the eternally depressed lab assistant. Anyway, in the most recent episode, Fisher, Sweets, and Hodgins are all wired about getting into see Avatar opening night. They take turns sneaking out of the lab to stand in line to see it. The truly funny thing is that the actor who plays Fisher is actually IN Avatar. I was watching one of the previews for the movie and spotted him standing in one of the shuttle-looking ships as they zoom in over the planet. What a hoot!
I love it when they slip in something like that.
Alexis
For a smile and a bit of great A Cappella sound, have a listen to Straight No Chaser singing The Christmas Can-Can :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqonjZ1hMnI&feature=player_embedded
We now have the Cooking w/ Gordon Ramsey set to record!
NM, Julie & Julia was very good! Meryl Streep is not my favorite actress, but she did an amazing job portraying Julia Childs. She nailed the speech & mannerisms!
Movie wise I have several currently out that I want to see and a couple that I am anxiously awaiting. We went to the theater to see A Christmas Carol in IMAX and the projector was broken, so that’s still on the list and I REALLY want to see The Blind Side. Being a Disney fan, I’m looking forward to The Princess and the Frog and then there’s Avatar and of course Holmes! But, it may be a while. Work is now officially in the crazy phase!!!
Alexis, Gotta love Bones! I have that episode recorded, but haven’t watched it yet. Now, I’ll be looking for the real life reference. I, too, love it when they make those connections!
One of my favorite tv episodes of all times has to be the Halloween episode of Castle! SOOOOoooooo cool! And has anyone read the book Nikki Heat by Richard Castle? (A published/released book by a fictional character in a TV show – really wacky!) I have it on my Christmas list.
Yes Alexis I do watch Bones… in fact have all 4 seasons on DVD. LOVE the show.
I love Booth, but I also have enjoyed the secondary characters and their story lines. Like the ZZ Top guy being Angela’s father. Gordon Gordon. And the parade of lab assistant/grad students that have replaced Zack. The writing has always been sharp with a nice blend of drama and humor.
Alexis
Alexis, I loved that Bones episode
and I knew Fisher was in Avatar. I read a little article somewhere obscure that they were doing the promo thing on Bones partly because of that. I think Fisher’s a hoot anyway. I thought *I* was depressed!
I loved the whole “do you wanna see my tattoos?” thing too. Hysterical.
I felt bad for Zack. But they really did a good job in explaining what happened and why. I’d like to see Angela and Hodgins quit beating around the bush and get back together. That was kind of a…grrrr moment for me.
Caron, the window for the vid is open, but I haven’t had enough time to myself today to watch it. But I will!
I love bones…. I’m behind a season and have season 5 recording till I get to it!!!
I watched 4 episodes last night!!! That tell you how much I’m trying to get caught up!!!!!! love it girls
NM, do make the time. It’s a group of young guys from Indiana. Their harmonies are just awesome! And they’re cute and just knee-slappin’ funny. I mean with a name like Straight No Chaser. . . . Right?
Well – I fell in love with the Temperance Brennan books… Still waiting for her to hook up with Andrew Ryan… growl… The series is nothing like the books… but still very good. I mean the series has deleted the lawyer ex-husband and the college age daughter and the drinking problem and Birdie the cat…
But for the series – I loved Zach… haven’t found a new lab assistant I like… but Sweets is – well sweet. And Gordon Gordon. Oh and fully agree Angela and Hodgins need to get back together… As much as I want Bones and Booth together… I REALLY REALLY hope they don’t… it always ruins a show… part of the fun is the wanting them to get together.
Oh rats! I see this vid came from Caron…well nto rats about that, but NM tweeted it, I watched it and race dover here to tell you all about it…only to find it came from our own Caron.
Well, I tried.
I watched that Bones epi, too…LOVED it and yes, I want Hodgins & Angela back together where they belong, too.
Those singers in the vid are fabulous. What fun…now I must go send it along elsewhere!
Bonnie
Nice Video Caron!
Since we are talking about series … Anyone watch Leverage on TNT? I’d nominate Christian Kane’s character Elliot to be an honorary Paladin…. Hot, Fighter, honorable….
Oooh, love that show! and particularly the delicious Mr. Kane. I have a pic of him on my phone from an interview he did at the radio studio where dh works! (Excellent taste, Delilah
) DJ, Any outside contact w/ Mr. Kane? He can fight, ya know. A little training with a sword and he’d be an excellent additon to the guards…
I dearly love Mr. Kane, starting with his time on Angel. But DJ said to point out that Christian won’t need sword training. Did anyone see Second Hand Lions? He played the swashbuckling young Robert Duvall. Seriously yum!
Alexis
OK – I’m going to have to add Second Hand Lions to my must find list.
I always kinda pictured Trahern as a Christian twin, a little rough around the edges, get the job done kinda guy, ya know?
Mmm, Amazon.com… Second Hand Lions . . . . searching . . ah, . . click . . . added to Wish List.
It’s a very sweet movie. Michael Caine and Robert Duvall were born to play two old codger brothers together. Christian Kane is in the flashbacks to their youth.
Alexis
I’ve come across it flipping through channels on the tube… but never really paid much attention to it.
Loved Second Hand Lions!
And Bonnie, I’m sorry
I don’t know that Caron twitters though or I’d have given her credit.
Caron, do you twitter? Does anyone else here twitter besides D, Bonnie and I?
The video was AWESOME!!! I LOVE A capella music and that was so…*sigh* yeah. Even if it was funny as all get out.
I miss Birdie. I started reading the Tempe books with the first one she wrote. I’d followed Cornwell for awhile and that’s what drew me to Reich’s books. The thing I ended up getting bored with finally is the same as Scarpetta. I need some kind of HEA! Val McDermid has a series with Dr. Tony Hill and Carol Jordan and I still read those because they’ve had their HEA, more or less, and McDermid’s been able to keep it all flowing anyway.
I’m eating Tuna Noodle Casserole! :yay: I haven’t made this in oh…15 years because the girls won’t eat it so I finally had enough, they’re 23 and 21, they can fend for themselves, and I am Pigging! And I don’t care
NM, I don’t Twitter. Sorry. I get into enough trouble here with ya’ll and with facebook. I’d get myself fired if I tried to keep up with Twitter, too. It’s a case of I know myself and that would destroy what little self disciplinle I have left.
Had to share…. I just found out Sarah’s Story is up for a reviewer’s choice award!!! http://redrosesforauthors.blogspot.com/2009/12/christmas-awards-2009.html
Wheeeee!!!!!
Delilah—
It’s a little early on the West Coast for a line dance, but we’re giving it our best shot. A private viewing for you alone–
DJ, Lonzo, Larem, and Trahern. (Jake says congratulations, too, and that he’s sorry he’s not with the rest of us to join in the celebrations!)
Me Likey Private viewings!
Ugh… I’m still floating, but am off the ceiling. Thanks guys… I’d have settled for hugs and kisses. But dancing works too. And Blake – Awwww you’re dancing for me too? That’s so sweet. I’ll bake you some snickerdoodles.
Congrats D!!!!!! I’ll go vote!!!!!!
Caron… add me to FB… I don’t twit, b/c I don’t have time… but love my FB!
Strohs, I don’t have your current last name, (When I searched for Krohn, . . .well, . . .yeah, . . . you know)
Strohs, Oh, duh, so, e-mail it to me if you want to.
Alright, you guys…if you can do a private, FREE dance for D, you can do a semi-public dance for us whereby you will have $20′s stuffed…wherever we can on you
D, WOOHOO!!!!! I hope you win. You sure deserve it!
Caron
You can use my email to search… and the last name is Miller… I don’t have your email anymore…. i keep loosing them!
Caron… get in touch with Bonnie! If you haven’t seen it you won her give-a-way at You Gotta Read!
Now I’m reading Barak’s book… Think it’s my fav so far of the series….
Too many emails to catch up on. Caron got in touch D…she picked The Hard Stuff b/c she’s already got Breathless.
Congrats on Sarah’s Story being nommed. You know I liked it!
We’re just home from getting flu shots…ugh. Got the H1N1 in my frozen shoulder, I figured if I’m not using it the soreness won’t matter much.
But I’m wandering off to write my cards.
See ya
Bonnie
Well, we had winds over 50mph all day. They’ve canceled the warning since the speeds have dropped to 45mph or under but we’ll go through this until tomorrow morning. I’ve managed to disappear at least half a dozen times today when the power’s gone out. I’m glad I didn’t miss too much.
Bonnie! Cards? I really should do some cards. I haven’t done Christmas cards in a long time now.
Bonnie – sent one to you using the general delivery address on the envelope for the cover flat – what can I say I save stuff.
Well, with 16 days to go til Christmas, I have my tree standing upright. It still need ornaments and lights. I have worked and gone to a Mgr meeting, tho, so I guess that counts. And, tomorrow is another day.
NM, I was watching on the news where you were having like hurricane strength gusts. I’m glad you’re still with us!
My husband told me that I was not allowed to send cards this year. Too busy and too much added stress. (He really loves me, ya know.) So, you all know my heart – Happy Happy Christmas everyone! (consider that your card)
As for the Twitter thing. It looks like I might HAVE to get a Twitter acct. Our Starbucks store now has a Twitter page, and I am supposed to help monitor it. You can check it out at Starbucks_Sag. (Happiness has ensued!)(SARCASM)
Anyway, I’m exhausted, so it’s time for some sleep. Maybe I’ll feel better about this tomorrow.
NM remind me to get you the recipe for my snickerdoodle cookies … made them yesterday and they were a hit at the house. *giggles* oh and yes there are extras for all to enjoy.
I can’t wait to see Avatar, going christmas day and I so wanna see Sherlock Holmes as well.
I saw Twilight Saga: New Moon not once, but twice and can we say drool worthy were wolf chests *drools* sorry DJ you are great and all but they were flesh and blood and oh so yummy looking. But then again I could steal you away and make lots of dinners and goodies for you.
anyways gotta jet *pouts* working
Dani
Wow be out a couple days and miss alot. Congrads Delilah, I loved that story. Christmas is come early here this year. my BIL along with his girlfriend and her two children were in a head on collsion with a drink driver friday night. Only by the hand of God did they all make it. The DD was completely on there side of the road. The medicvac’d him to Charlottesville, VA hospital, but he’s doing much better and the others are recovering.
Everyone take care and hope you day is filled with cookies, good books and hunky paladins, talions, vampires, etc.
Dee, I’ll be praying for speedy recovery! And, Merry Christmas!
Vampire lovers – sorry DJ – Kindred marathon on SyFy today.
Dee…best wishes for a quick recovery for everyone! I’m betting they’re all counting blessings right now. Even the DD…here’s a wish it *never* happens again.
Merry Christmas everyone who celebrates….btw…I LOVED the Christmas Can Can that Caron posted. Have sent it to a couple friends/family….even my agent!
Bonnie
Alexis here– Dee, my thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Here’s hoping for a fast and full recovery for everyone.
Dee – glad to hear that everyone is recovering from the accident. Hope everyone is out of the hospital and home in time for the festivities.
Dee, you’re all in my thoughts! Hoping everyone is there for a merry Christmas morning.
Yes, we had hurricane force winds. My deck furniture, which isn’t lightweight stuff by any means, ended up in the middle of the yard. Strewn everywhere. We had the fireplace going and the smoke kept getting blown back in for the first hour until the chimney got hot enough to draw well. Power kept going off, it was an interesting day.
D, I watched that Kindred marathon all day. I still get very sad thinking how far Frankle could have gone had he not died. And I bet that series would have made it through at least another season, unlike most vampire series they make that have decent followings but TPTB don’t care…
NM–those winds sound awful. We get bad wind storms occassionally and they’re never fun.
On a lighter note, I just picked up my mail to discover a writer friend had sent me her new book. It’s Sharon Ashwood’s new release SCORCHED, the sequel to RAVENOUS, which I really loved. The series is called THE DARK FORGOTTEN, and I think it’s a very innovative paranormal world–vamps, demons, and one of my favorites, hell hounds.
I promised myself reading it would be my reward for finishing my revisions–or the reason they don’t get done.
Alexis
Congrats on the book. My favorite thing is to have UPS or USPS bring me books! I’m up to Cullen and Lusahn’s book. Have to get ready for Hunter’s book you realize. So many things I’d forgotten in them and so many things I loved and love more reading them again. Bavi and Shiri are just too sweet!
For the first time in two weeks I don’t have something to edit and don’t know what to do with myself! Oh well, Cullen and Lusahn then Jarvis and Gwen will keep me company.
Oh and Cullen… Love the “Been there. Done that. No big deal.”
Okay, I got up, came out in the great room, one of the girls has the TV on. The Christmas Visitor…immediate tears! Grrrrr I need coffee…..*grumbles off to find coffee pot*
No new blog today from DJ? I’m hoping everything’s okay!
Nod nod… I’m keeping good thoughts. The barrier is nice and quiet – and Alexis is just burried in writing the next book.
Which reminds me, have a little graphic stuff I want to do for her….
