Stuff

Okay, so the Sheryl Crow concert was cool, and not just because of the weather.   That woman can rock the house–or the park, in this case.   Her band was great, very tight with driving percussion–Alexis’s favorite part of any band.   The lead on act was James Blunt, who reminded me of Davy Jones of the Monkees for some reason.  Partly in looks but also in accent.   The concert was at an outside venue in a really nice park–lots of grass and tall firs.  The food at the concessions was a definite cut above the usual.    Even though the temperature was a bit on the nippy side, it was a great night for music.

The Italian car show was also worth seeing.   Nothing like a Masarati to have me drooling!

And my Mariners have been winning games!   A bit late in the season to do them any good, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction.  They’ve been playing a lot of what Alexis calls “babies” to see how they’ll fit into next year’s lineup.

Speaking of Alexis, she’s in a tizzy.  She’s going to be moving her office from one room to another that’s bigger.  Although that’s a good thing, I guess, it means she’s been going nuts picking out paint and fabric and . . . . well, you get the idea.    For the next week or so, she’s going to be in transition, trying to schlep everything upstairs to the new room and getting it all arranged.  So if we’re quiet or slow to respond, assume she’s got me and the others hauling office supplies  and furniture upstairs.  How many books does one woman really need to own?   And then there’s rehanging all of her matted & framed book covers, and finding a new spot for that squawkbox of a parakeet.   Sigh.

So anyway, I’ll check in as time and Alexis allows.    Keep safe out there–

DJ

  1. Best of luck with move, DJ…it’s hard enough shlepping your own stuff when you know where you want it to go. But to-ing and fro-ing for Alexis may be a pain. She’s a woman and might change her mind 6 times before she settles on where she wants her desk.

Facing the window? Away from the window? In that corner, or this one? sigh…

But I’m sure you can all handle wrestling furniture.

And don’t hurt *one* book in her collection or you’ll be . . . punished.

    Bonnie

  2. Good luck moving your office Alexis. Mine’s great if I could just get the dang hot tub that takes up 2/3 of it up. It would be ok if I could use the damn thing as a hot tub.

Well obviously I didn’t lose power – Gustav in Mobile is a little rain and wind – heck we’ve had thunderstorms stronger. So my little corner of the world is fine… Hopefully everything will be OK for Heather.

  3. Oh, wow…you’re gonna help move, huh? Well…best of luck with that! Hopefully she’s not like me! Although, I’m not bad at all except for pushing my baby grand around the house. Room to room means the whole thing needs disassembled and reassembled…HEY! Next time I rearrange, wanna come help me? :D

Congrats on your team doing better. The Tigers are still losing splendidly…*sigh*

  4. DJ- thank you for helping Alexis move. It is very sweet of you.

Glad everyone enjoyed the concert and car show.

Delilah- glad to hear the storm missed you.

  5. Hmm, I’ll bet having a slew Paladins, Talions and vampires at your disposal makes moving a lot easier – especially when you control when they all get their own books and the ones who already have their own books have you to thank for their HEAs. Good luck with everything.

  6. Alexis congrats on the new office…
DJ be careful moving stuff… don’t hurt anything!
Delilah-Glad you are safe, I hope everyone else is.

For everyone else I’m sorry I’ve been MIA… Trying to get house up for sell, sell stuff, pack stuff… OMG! I can’t belive how much stuff I got in this house and we only lived here for 3 1/2 years…

    Talk to you girls/guys later!

  7. D.J. – You and the guys are so nice to help Alexis move. Let us know what the final color scheme is. I love all that decorating stuff. Oh, and a woman can never have too many books! And Italian sports cars are definitely drool worthy, it is the price tag that makes makes me queasy! LOL

Delilah – Glad the storm missed you. I’m even happier the thing weakened more than they thought before making landfall. That was a blessing.

strohs – Good luck with all the packing and everything else. Let us know if you need anything.

Bonnie – Any more quakes? Hope the writing is going well.

    Stay safe!

  8. Delilah, glad to know you got nothing more than heavy rain. That’s great! Now, we just need to hear from Heather. Hope all’s well there.

No more quakes here, that I know of. But most of the time we don’t feel anything much anyway. No, shelf-rattlers.

And the writing’s going well. Thanks for asking, Stacy.

Strohs…Wow…you move quickly when you make a decision. Take care and read a good book if things get tough. Nothing like escaping into other worlds, is there?

    Bonnie

  9. I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. I ate so much!! My husband grilled brisket, chicken, sausage and ribs. I swear I can feel my fingers swelling from all the sodium! But man, was it good!

Bonnie – I’m happy to hear the writing is going well. Yay!

D.J. – How is Alexis’ office move going?

Heather – Can’t wait for you to check in! Hope all is well.

  10. DJ, thanks for helping Alexis! You rock dude!

Bonnie, YAY! Keep up the good work.

Strohs, I’ve never lived anywhere as long as I’ve lived here. Daddy was in the A.F. and hubbie worked for IBM – I’ve Been Moved – but, we’ve been here since ’97. I used to be very good at moving. I can not imagine having to pack it all now. It’s actually kind of good – for me anyway – to move every once in a while. I got rid of a bunch of clutter each time. So, long way round, check in when you can and know that we’re thinking of you!

If the weather is accurate, Lake Ponchatrain is not flooding the surrounding area. And I think Heather said she was about 5 miles from there, so, I hope that means all is well for her. Her power may be out, though.

New report on Tad tomorrow. I talked to him today and he is doing VERY well.

  11. Bonnie, is this a new one? Or revisions?

I’m glad everyone came through the weekend okay. We grilled, just the DH and I. The girls are ‘too old’ now and spend most of their time wrapped in their own lives.

Ribs and sweet corn, must be a staple in the midwest for Labor Day grilling. Seems like almost everyone I’ve talked to though had ribs this past weekend.

I’m so glad Tad’s doing so well!! Give him our best. We’re all thinking of him.
    :D

  12. We have TONS of leftovers! Everyone, feel free to head our way. I leave for RAW in just a little over two weeks and I need this junk out of my house! LOL

strohs – You are motivating me to clean out clutter but then I look at my TBR stack and I feel the need to read. **sigh** So many books and chores and so little time.

Hopefully, Heather is okay and so is her house. I am so happy Gustav weakened before it made landfall. That was such a blessing. I hope she can check in soon so we know for sure.

Caron – I’m glad Tad is doing so well. That is awesome!

NM – My daughter kept raving about how good her dad’s ribs were. Guess what she is having for dinner? And she took a brisket sandwich to school for lunch today. LOL

    Stay safe everyone!

  13. Well I survivied another weekend with teenage girls-will wonders never cease, actually took 3 of them to the drive in to see 4 movies until 3:00 in the morning. Movies sucked but the girls had a good time-hubby is ready to kill me.
Alexis good luck on the move-don’t lose anything. When are we getting a picture of that bird?
DJ sounds like you had a great weekend-winning sports team, music, food and cars. Lucky guy!
    Delilah glad your all safe…
Caron-tell Tad Hi from his ladies!
Strohs-Moving is definetly no fun, but look at it this way when you move you get to redecorate and buy NEW stuff!

  14. Alexis here–

I guess I wasn’t the only one riveted to the news, feeling relieved that Gustav weakened considerably before hitting the coast. There was still damage done, but at least they’re talking days to restore power instead of weeks/months.

One more coat of paint (which I have to go buy) in the closet and I can start getting my new office ready to move into. I hit IKEA yesterday–spent two hours prowling–and bought a hide-a-bed, two new lamps, and some little stuff that I needed. If you’ve never had the chance to visit an IKEA store, you’ve never lived. Most of my office furniture came from there.

The Mariners won big yesterday–whoohoo! Some of the babies they’ve brought up from Triple A are showing great promise.

Did anyone watch any/all of the Star Trek-Next Generation marathon yesterday? I still love Warf and Data. . . .

Well, got to get to work. I’ll check in and see where DJ has snuck off to. He was supposed to be packing books.

  15. LOL Alexis, you’d better keep a tighter rein on DJ than that! And be very careful when you first turn on your computer after the move!

I watched TV/CNN all day yesterday. Couldn’t tear myself away. I’m so glad that the levees held. Delilah, glad you’re safe and hope to hear from Heather.

Definitely not as bad as a hurricane, but my weekend….grrr. The Jeep, which will be 1 yr old in September, decided on Sunday afternoon that it didn’t care to start. Had it towed to the dealer, but have you ever tried to find a rental car in a small town on a threeday weekend? Didn’t get it until just now. And the dealer has no idea what might be wrong. “Something electrical” well, that’s reassuring! At least it’s still under warrenty. I usually like to stay home and enjoy the quiet and read, but when you don’t have a car, all you can think about are the things you suddenly HAVE to have NOW!

DJ, don’t pull any muscles lifting things. And I’m seriously thinking I should come out there and supervise you guys. Be nice to Jake if he’s helping, too.

  16. Thanks guys… packing was good this weekend! I feel better! I got mostly his crap out… I did get some of my stuff packed but it’s stuff that will not be missed right away.
Stacy L… I have a big TBR pile still.. and it keeps growing! I got ARC’s that have already come out and I still haven’t read them! Go figure… I just have to read 2 of them to give reviews… so I’ll get to them before they come out in Oct.
Bonnie-Yes once something is in my head I’m good… Plus we are selling the house… and I want to show it with less stuff in it…

I’m also selling my daycare stuff and gatta list that stuff today!!! TTYL!
I’m glad everyone is safe from the hurricane!

  17. Wendy, doesn’t your dealer have loaners?? I don’t think there’s a dealer around me, or probably in this state (maybe I’m wrong) who doesn’t have a loaner available when someone brings their car in for service.

I’m glad everyone is safe! And Alexis, no, we were probably all glued to the Gustav news. Vested interest and all.

    And congrats on the win.

I’ve never been to IKEA and there’s one less that three miles from me…

  18. Okay thank God it’s just not me that has a TBR pile that is getting out of hand… I mean way out of hand. It’s a sickness I tell you.
My hubby just doesn’t get it- and considering I just got back from borders and bought 3 new books he may very well kill me tonight, so if you don’t hear from me for a while grab DJ and someone take a road trip to PA. to find my body I’ve said I know he’ll bury me with the books so you might get lucky… LOL

  19. NM, ya gotta go to IKEA. It is really really amazing! A lot of the furniture is to modern for me, but it’s really pretty stuff and there are literally tons of ideas. It’s inspiring.

I just got off the phone with Tad. He is getting out! He talked to the discharge nurse this morning. It’s the first working day since he left the ICU, so there are tons of details to work out, but it looks like he’ll be able to go home tomorrow!!!!! Actually, he’ll go to Mom’s, but, still…. He has all 10 toes still, and it’s the toes that are what’s still hurting. The thigh (stent) and calf (dis-assembled and carved up) are healing nicely! The toes are hurting because they’re actually getting good blood flow for the first time in a long while – and, they’re doing very well, too. Details to work out are how long at Moms, how long at home, when to go back to work – desk job only – how long w/ 1/2 days, etc. They’re waiting one more day to make sure the blood thinners are out of his system.

I can’t say thank you enough times! For your prayers, for your words to me, and your hearts! Thank you!

  20. Caron – great news about your brother!

NM – The dealer was closed Sunday and Monday. The towtruck guy left the car in the lot. And the dealer has no answering machine/voice mail. When we finally did get ahold of them today….no loaners available! So we had to wait for Enterprise to open (they weren’t open Sunday or Monday either!) Life is just grand in Oxford.

  21. Caron, great news on your brother. Life will go back to normal for him soon. And normal is so reassuring when we’ve had a scare.

IKEA is awesome: anyone seen their ad with the woman, yelling, “Start the car! Start the car!” and running in heels out of the store. It cracks me up no matter how many times I see it. It’s hilarious! It comes on during their sales and I dread the day they stop using it…

Kelley, if you go missing, I’m sure Alexis could send a Paladin to check things out…he’ll look for a pile of books big enough to hide a body.

Better get back to work here, I’m on a roll, finally.

I’ll keep checking to see if Heather’s checked in…I sure hope she goes home and her life goes back to normal, too.

    Bonnie

  22. The commercial I love most is the back to school one for…Staples? Office Max? Where the parents are ecstatically pushing the cart through the store, a smile from ear to ear, and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” is playing…That was me a few short years ago…

Oxford, Wendy?? MY Oxford? I mean, Michigan’s Oxford??? WE NEED TO GET TOGETHER FOR LUNCH!!!!! Livonia!!!

That explains a lot about the dealership though. *sigh*

Caron, I’m so glad to hear Tad’s getting out! So much better to recover at home. The hospital gets depressing. Really depressing. I spent a month in hospital once. I can’t imagine people who spend several months!!

Okay, I’m impatient! I wanna hear from our post Gustav people!!!

Kelley, I have books on the counter, books on two shelves in my bedroom, books in the bathroom, books in my den, books by the chair in the great room, books on the floor, on seats, on anything with a flat surface. My husband looks around every once in a while and says “Are you ever going to read these?” to which I reply, “Yes, dear, it’s just a TBR pile.” :D Then he walks away mumbling something about one tiny match under his breath…

  23. ROFLOL. This past weekend my husband told me (again), that I was stacking too many books upstairs in the spare bedroom. When I looked all clueless, he took me outside to show me the brick that was cracking in the facade of the house. He told me the house was settling too much on that side because I had too much weight there. So, I replied that I would move some books to the other side of the house and we could have cracks there too! LOL And I bought two more books today!

Caron – Great news on Tad. Did you tell him you had a ton of ladies praying for him?

Alexis – Did D.J. pack up the books carefully?

strohs – Happy packing! You know what I mean. :)

NM – I love the Staples Easy button commercials. Like when the lady fills up with gas. Those crack me up!

Wendy – I hope they figure out what is wrong with your car soon. GRRRR….

Bonnie – I keep checking in to see if Heather has checked in. I think we are on the same page. Happy writing!

  24. SL!! We HAVE an Easy Button!! You can buy them, did you know that? The DH took it to work and it sits on his desk and whenever someone comes to bother him, he pushes it and tells them it should make them go away…

  25. This is the message that Momma posted:
There’s about a 95% chance that Tad will be released from the hospital tomorrow afternoon!
He’ll have home care to dress his foot, and he will need to go up to Temple for follow-ups (he doesn’t know the schedule yet) but all has gone so much better than the Doctor’s expected. Tad figures he will be able to drive since the left foot and leg is the one that is bandaged & his car is an automatic.
At some point in the future they will remove the part of his 2 toes, but it will be after they know for sure how much of each one is viable. Then they will remove the scar tissue/stubby ends, leaving surgically clean ends as opposed to what is left when the scabs come off.
So thank you all again for your prayers! Offer up another one of Praise! and ask that the healing continues.
    Love in Christ, Caryl

  26. NM, Oxford Ohio, unfortunately. Same deal about the dealership, though. It’s fixed now; a “software problem”. And they didn’t pay for the rental. It’s a good thing I wasn’t the one who picked it up, because there would have been trouble over that part! :)

Caron, great news about Tad! Your aunt sounds cool, too. Humor always helps!

Stacy L – I laughed about the cracks and the books. Some people don’t understand that books aren’t just “things”. At least not to me. And what if, two years from now, I suddenly get the urge to reread something? I’ll save money if I don’t throw them away, right?

DJ, did you fall down the stairs?

  27. Wendy, I’m driving to Indy in October for the Gerry Fest. Coffee?

Caron, that’s funny!! ‘Stubby’! hahahahaha And I’m guessing your brother shares that sense of humor? Just glad to know that things are progressing well with him.

    stubby… *snort*

    DJ!!!!!!! Oh DJ!!!!!!!!!

  28. Caron–glad Tad is doing so well. Sounds like he’ll need his strength to deal with the jokes. ;-D

I’m doing fine–I was all set to haul books, but Alexis hasn’t finished painting yet. Until that’s done, she can’t do much in the way of moving. Soon, though, I’m sure.

She’s also got a bottle of Goo Gone–whoever heard of that stuff? It’s supposed to take off the sticky stuff from the tape and stickers that she peelled off the door (leftovers from her son). She’ll miss the “Do Not Enter–Crime Scene” tape that used to hang on the door. She picked it up at a conference and taped it on her son’s door to surprise him when he came home when he was in high school. What a hoot that was!

Weapons drills this afternoon. I’m excited. I’m definitely in the mood to pound on Lonzo–or maybe Larem. Of course, I haven’t crossed swords with Cullen in a while either. Decisions, decisions.

    DJ

  29. DJ-why not do all three? That way who ever is last will have a chance to beat you since you will be tired. :)

Caron- so happy to hear about your brother.

Goo Gone- I love that sfuff. But be careful using it around paint. It can and will take it off if you aren’t careful.

I just finished Dark Curse by Christine Feehan. Now I have to wait for Murder Game to come out. I am not patient.
I don’t have a tbr pile. I read them as fast as I can buy them.

I took some adorable pictures of my son monday. The problem is that somewhere packed up with a million other cables is the one I need to hook up my camera to my pc. GRRRRR my fiance has more usb cables than I have books.

  30. Stacy H- I enjoyed it. Finally things are coming together and while still pretty grim the carpathians have some hope now. She also added some new characters and possibilities in this book so I don’t know who will be next.

  31. **signing Love Remains** I love this song! And Gavin Rossdale is on Ellen right now singing it. **sigh**

I haven’t read a Carpathian book in forever. I got burned out after the first three. Do I need to start reading them again?

Wendy – My husband definitely doesn’t understand why I keep 90% of the books I buy. I love him but….:)

D.J. – Have fun in weapons practice and don’t beat up on the other guys too much. And is there a specific reason you need to work off some steam? Oh, and what paint color did Alexis pick?

NM – I need to buy one of those Easy buttons!!!

Caron – Love the Stubby comment from your aunt. Your family sounds like mine. I’m so happy his outlook is so good!

    Stay safe!

  32. Stacy L- Since I happen to like them of course I will recommend reading them. I do, however, understand how you can get burnt out. There is a lot of repeat information in each and with a lot of the same problems for the characters to face. Overbearing male who takes unwilling female to be a lifemate… and so on. But they are just now starting to find out why they are having the problems that they are, such as the low birthrate for females and why so many die in infancy. Should you start with Dark Destiny and go forward I think you would understand what is going on pretty easily. You would only miss out on the pairing of people and a few details about talents, but they are mentioned in later books as well.

  33. I was just on Karen Marie Moning’s website. I was looking for the release date of her newest book, Faefever. I have the worst trouble making heads or tales of that message board. Thank you, Ladies, for keeping things simple and easy to read over here.
P.S. her book is released sept 16 according to Borders

  34. Alexis here–Imagine that–DJ refused to answer a “girly” question about paint colors. It’s called washed canvas–a soft creamy white w/a hint of yellow. Very warm. Then I found fabric for the curtains that’s a narrow stripe with rose, purple, yellow/gold, and spring green with a very narrow stripe of metalic gold every so often. The cover on the hide-a-bed will be the dark purple. Not that I can sew a straight line. My neighbor is a whiz at such things and is doing them all for me. I owe her big time!

Should all come together with a nice rich, warm effect. I wanted neutral walls because I hang my bookcovers, and they’re all different colors.

  35. Alexis – It sounds beautiful! What a nice relaxing environment to work in. D.J. needs to keep in mind that the sooner you are settled, the sooner you can finish what you are working on and maybe, hopefully, think about his book! LOL

Kimberly – I guess I’ll have to relook at the Carpathians. I have a ton in my TBR pile. And I really like KM’s new series and have FaeFever on my to buy list. I can not wait to read it!!!

  36. Hey guys! I see alot has been going on. I haven’t really read thru everything, I’m short on time. At a book store in Hattiesburg, MS. Has to drive out about 45 minutes to find civilization. Our Parish got hit with winds that clocked about 110. from what i understand my house is ok. some shingles lost but no flooding yet. the lake keeps rising though and the water is actually about 500 yards from my house. a couple of houses across the street from ours lost their roofs, but they were a 2-story. my husband and his two friends left from tylertown this morning to drive in to get a better look at the damage. my dad said several trees and power lines down and some homes took on water from the rain. from the reports we heard from the parish gustapo (our parish council) is that we are looking at about 2-4 weeks without power, water or sewage. the main grid that supplies power to our town is located in baton rouge and the entire grid was taken out. so, st. john (my parish—y’all call them counties), st. charles, ascension, east baton rouge, st. james, tangipahoa, st. tammany, parts of jefferson, terrebonne, lafourche, rapides, and parts of new orleans, st. bernard and plaquemines are without power for up to a month. i don’t know how long i’ll be here in ms, but with this blow, i think i might just up and relocate out here or somewhere. my house is still good, but my business is virtually gone. it never fully recovered from katrina. don’t know what we are going to do yet. i’ll try and keep y’all posted.
caron–glad to see your brother is doing great.
i also saw something about someone or someones moving—hope all goes well.
thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers.
hopefully i can go home soon.

  37. Heather! I’m so glad to hear from you…thanks for thinking of us here. We were fretting for you.

Sorry to hear about the power outage lasting so long! Things could be so much worse though. But the loss of your business is an awful burden.

My best wishes to you and your family…here’s hoping you can salvage something from your business and start again wherever you end up.

Take care and keep in touch when you can.

    Bonnie

  38. Heather -Glad to hear your safe and the house is okay, sorry about the business. I’ll continue to keep you in my prayers.

stacy L.- My husband did not appreciate the whole crack in the bricks as much as I did. He says we should all just get one big community of houses that way we could all just swap books when we need them. I told him if the Paladins are game I’m moving :-)

Kimberly- How can you not have a TBR pile? I just bought 3 books yesterday and 2 more today *note to self-STOP BUYING BOOKS! At least for this week :-O

Alexis your new office sounds really pretty, hope you get it up and running soon. I too can not sew that’s why God made mother in laws.

  39. SL! At your service! http://tiny.cc/IAA3j

Heather! I’m just so glad you’re okay. I’m so sorry about your business and I know it’s always such a trite thing to say but you’re alive, your family’s intact. You can start again. And thanks for thinking to stop and let us know!

    On the KMM note…

I am a member at her forum though I don’t post often, but I do visit a lot. I have not, nor will I read her Fever series. Well, that’s not true…I tried to read the first one, three times, and couldn’t get past chapter 7. I just cannot read first person. I hate it! I hate being in only one character’s POV and as wonderful a writer as I think she is, I just couldn’t get past that.

So, I’m just re-reading the Highlander ones since, if I have to have a Highlander and not a Paladin, Adam is my alpha male of choice (and don’t give anything away if you’ve read them!) and I shall wait patiently for her to write about her Highlanders once again. There’s definitely some unfinished business there.

On another note, *sigh* I am also waiting patiently for another PALADIN!!! I don’t know if I can wait until next year! Don’t you have a little tidbit, just for us girls you can throw us, Alexis? Maybe something from say…DJ’s story?

Your room sounds beautiful by the way. When you finally post the pic of Jubilee, can we see your room too?

  40. Kelley- I dont have a tbr pile because I read them as fast as I can get them. If I had the money I could easily read two books a day. I read every chance I get. The car, every break at work, the few minutes I have after work before I pick up my son, and oh they make great excuses for extra long baths. I could read more but I do have to get somethings done. But I have been known to go without sleep for up to three days so could finish different books

  41. Heather!!! I’m so glad you and your family are safe and your house weathered the storm. I’m sorry your business didn’t survive the storm. :( Let us know if there is anything we can do. And the no electricty sucks!

NM – You crack me up! And Adam is HOT!!! And first person isn’t my favorite either but I can still handle it.

Kelley – Feel free to move to Texas! I’m more than happy to share books…provided you take really good care of them. Very few people understand how anal I am about my books. **sigh**

Kimberly – You sound like my friend Ange. She can even read in the shower! And she plows through books like few people I know. She uses her library alot and then if she loves the book she’ll buy a copy for herself. Hmmm….maybe I should try that….nah, I like the immediate gratification of getting the book on its release date even if I can’t read it for awhile.

  42. SL, I have gotten so many friends to read the Highlanders, but I FORCE them to read the books in order so they get the full Adam effect *sigh* But I really, really did try to read the Fever books. I even got chastised by a few on the KMM board for not giving them a fourth go-round. I figure after three strikes…

So…since I adore my Paladins…that’s a hint, Ms. Alexis!! MORE!!!

Hey! If I come help you paint and move, will you tell me DJ’s name? **bigcheesygrin**

And I can’t tell you all how many times I’ve had to replace certain series’s of books because I wore them out. I finally got to the point where I realized, between letting others borrow them and my own reading them dozens of times, now, when someone wants to borrow them, I just buy them the series. That way, my own well-broken-in-to-my-standards books stay with me! :D

Besides, no one wants to read through the drool…

  43. NM I understand 100% I only let my mom or my very very best friend read my books because they are the only ones that know how to take care of my books the way I do plus they don’t mind the drool because their books are also covered in drool

  44. Stacy L I would of course recommend reading Christine Feehan’s Dark Series but then I love the Carpathians I have to say though that my favorite is Dimitri

  45. Heather! :hugs: glad you’re okay!

I didn’t know Feehan had a new story out. My favorite has always, always, from the very first book been Jacques. I’m not sure why, but instant crush :) Also Gregori. But of the more recent books, Dimitri is my favorite, too.

  46. Okay DJ did you notice Alexis now has a seperate icon for the vampire’s on her home page? Hmm. was wondering what you thought. Hopefully you haven’t strained yourself lifting all those boxes.(LOL)

Stacey L.-Texas hmm. may be too hot- but for what it’s worth I too am obsessive about the treatment of my books, and I have passed the same obsession onto my daughter. My son on the other hand could care less.

  47. Kelley- if texas is too hot you can always come stay in Nebraska. The eastern side of course.

I too noticed the vampire icon. I almost clicked on it. because not only is it up there but ,DJ, did you notice it took your spot?

  48. Kimberly-I could definetly do Nebraska….
Wonder where DJ is? Hope he’s not off hiding because of the Vamp Icon. Kind of sorry I brought it up, but you know how fond he is of the blood suckers…..

  49. Stacy H- I know of Dimitri’s lifemate. And I am eagerly awaiting his story to find out how he copes with being away from her. It will be great I am sure. I just hope that we don’t have to wait too long.

  50. Yeah, I know Alexis is trying out a new icon–personally, I thought a pile of sharp stakes would be better, but does the woman ever listen to me???? Hell no! Not when it comes to bloodsuckers. Oh, well, all I can say is that Rafferty has a short story, not a book. And when Alexis writes the next installment, that vamp will also get a lot shorter book than I will. That should tell everyone who really counts in her world–

    DJ

  51. I wish I knew ya’ll handled that sort of thing a month ago. The only thing I have left that’s heavy is my dishwasher that needs to be installed. Yes you lucked out. But congrats to Alexis on the new office, tell her to have fun nesting. Speaking of nesting I’ve got all of her Paladin books packed to reread at the hospital when my daughter decides it’s time to arrive anyday now, yet another reason I could have used some of ya’ll to help me move to my new house. That was a lot of boxes. Be thankful you escaped that job. :D

  52. Brandy – Congratulations on the soon to be new addition to your family!

D.J. – I really like Alexis’ vampire icon. I even clicked on it. :) And yes, we all know who is really important in her life. So, how long do you think your book will be? I just want to be sure I block out enough reading time for it when the time comes.

Okay, you guys have me interested in the Carpathians again. HOWEVER, I have a ton of books to go through first, RAW in two weeks (where I will buy a ton more), and a couple of home projects. I promise to put them back on the list.

Kelley – We have a pool. Does that help entice you to Texas??? LOL

    Stay safe!

  53. Okay, so one little crack about the vamps and Alexis redoes their icon! I’d say where’s the justice in that, but evidently the scales of justice is the new symbol for the vamps–well, more for the chancellors in the story, but still.

She’s doing stuff like that when she could be finishing Hunter’s book–which would move her one step closer to writing mine.

All that, and she still expects me to haul books for her.

Where’s Trahern? I need to go beat on somebody for a while.

    DH

  54. LOL. I have to admit I like the first icon with the bat. Alexis – Can you add the bat to the new icon? Not that I get a vote or anything…LOL

DJ – Did you find Trahern? And remember, Alexis needs some down time so her creative juices can flow and clear her mind. We won’t let her forget about you for long. Trust me. :)

Tonight is Meet the Teacher night. Hey, D.J. you should meet my daughter’s teacher. She is beautiful! And nice. And single. And loves animals and kids. Want me to get her number?

    Stay safe!

  55. DJ darling you sound a little pissed? Maybe some of that physical labor Alexis needs you to do will wear off some of your hostility towards the bloodsuckers-or maybe not……Trahern hide he’s looking for a scape goat to punish.

Stacy L.- I agree about the vampire icon it needs something else now- a bat, blood, fangs something…. Just a thought Alexis. And a pool is an absolute enticing factor to come to Texas, not to mention men on horseback :-) do you have any of those around?

  56. Kelley – No men on horseback. Sorry! My grandparents used to own a ranch outside of Austin and I have to tell you, I never saw any hot cowboys then either! I don’t know where they all hide. LOL

  57. Kelley-I can’t compete with a pool. All I have are some lakes and rivers pretty close by. There also is no tv in the front room with all the books so it is nice and quiet if that helps.

Everyone is right about the icon. I like the scales but maybe some blood dripping from the moon or something

  58. Alexis here–

I actually like the icon as it is–mainly because it’s simple. Once I get the actual name of the Nocturne series, I’ll take another look at the icon. I just wanted something to hold the spot–

  59. I think you ought to overlay it with a vampire bite, chomping the whole icon and I can’t really explain what I mean but oh well. I do like it! It’s just not…vampirey. BUT! I can certainly understand wanting to give a hint and still wait until things are mapped out a bit more so you have a better feel for what you want as a finished icon.

But I just finished the header for my new site. Only took me 7 hours because I had a terrible time trying to figure out photoshop!! grrrrrrrrr

    Brandy! Congrats! :D

DJ, when you’re done beating on Trahern, come back and let us know how it went :)

  60. DJ, Been watching the Redskins game. They lost, but were expected to lose bigger. So, I’m somewhat appeased. (Hate the Giants!) DH is HUGE ‘Skins fan. I like ‘em ok. Really liked Joe Gibbs when he was around. Him and Tom Landry, now those were the days!! I grew up watching The Cowboys, Roger Staubach, TooTall Jones, etc. :sigh: I miss them. The odds don’t look to good for the Seahawks against Buffalo on Sunday, but as I REALLY don’t like Buffalo, I’ll think good thoughts!

Hey, had a couple of thoughts, DJ, er, questions really. Have we learned anything new from Jarvis or Devlin about those blue stones? Any tidbit we might ponder????? Has Kincade been behaving himself, that is, staying out of your way? Other than schlepping boxes for Alexis and beating up on Trahern, what’s going on down in the tunnels? Has Lacey made any progress on predicting the barrier crashes? And has Brenna learned anything interesing in the archives? (I thought *if* I asked specific questions, we might get a nibble or two out of Alexis…..) :hint:

Brandy, we are so happy for you! Congratulations!

I posted some photos from our trip to Colorado on Flickr, if you’d like to see them, try http://www.flickr.com/photos/29809979@N06/

  61. Stacy H- I have read all of the carpathian books except one of the stories in an anthology…riordans (spelling?) story. I own all but Dark symphony which I have in ebook format. Why I spent as much money for an electronic copy when I could have bought a paper version for the same price I do not know. It was icy out. that is my only excuse.

  62. I only watched the game until halftime, but it was great. I like Eli Manning, and so was happily cheering the Giants on, really just happy the season had started, when it dawned on me that there was a big silence coming from the other side of the room. I was watching with my mom, who is a big football fan….specifically a big ‘Skins fan. Hadn’t really dawned on me up until that point…..I’m slow some days. :) Now, steeling myself for the Niners first game.

DJ, I really don’t think Blake is the one you want to pick on. Besides, he’s probably down helping Brenna….uh, do research. You REALLY wouldn’t want to interupt that.

  63. Caron- the pictures were absolutely gorgeous…. Did you use a digital camera? If so how many pixels? Personally I hate my digital camera I keep going back to my 35mm.

Alexis I hope we didn’t upset you about the vamp icon…..

It’s Friday and so far there are no plans for me to have screaming 13yr old girls this weekend..YET>>> watch my daughter will come home from school and that will all change. Pray for me :-) I just want a quiet weekend to read- Kimberly your front room sounds perfect, busy this weekend (LOL)

  64. GAH! You know, I wasn’t feeling so hot yesterday. I only slept about two hours the night before and wasn’t thinking well.

I have two jokes today. They’re a bit long so I’ll post two messages. And DJ! You SO know this first one is true!!

Using husband/wife for brevity’s sake.

    32. The wheel is turning, but the hamster is dead.

  66. OMG- The shower joke caused tea to come out my nose and all over my computer screen, keyboard and my desk ( don’t think I T guy at work is going to be too happy with me today…) That is just too damn funny and TRUE…. Why is that?

  67. kelley-my df and I both work 12+ hour days on the weekends. You would have the house all to yourself for the majority of time. And the time that we are home we are both desperately trying to sleep

NM- love the shower joke. the saying “it’s funny cuz it’s true” definately applies here

  68. I loved the employee evaluation suggestions. What a hoot!

DJ is fine and survived his bout with Trahern. Well, mostly. They’d just worked up a good head of steam when the alarms went off. Thte barrier stabilized almost immediately, but fighting for practice is no fun right after you’re fighting for real.

To answer about the blue stones–they seem to be more of a problem for the Seattle Paladins, so Jarvis doesn’t have to deal with them much. Hunter . . . now that’s a different story.

I’ll talk to Brenna and see if I can’t get her to do an article or two about her findings. I’m still packing up my office for the big move tomorrow–so it may be a few days before I can bring order out of what promises to be total chaos.

    Alexis

  69. Alexis – Good luck with the move and just think about how happy you will be in your new space. Please tell the guys to stay safe and have a great weekend!

  70. You know, Alexis, you keep talking about how great your new space is going to be…you’re making me jealous! I have my desk in the den, and that’s where I keep my desktop computer. I wander the house with the laptop. But in the den, which isn’t all that big I might add, I have the desk, two file cabinets, two bookshelves, a leather chair, and my baby grand. There’s this tiny path to get from the door to the desk and it’s begun to make me claustrophobic. My office furniture is huge and oak and I had it in our old house in a room that was unused so the size was great but now…maybe I’ll hit IKEA this weekend, see if I can’t find a smaller desk. I’d really like to move the piano into the great room but the DH doesn’t like that idea and he’d be the one moving it…

    *sigh*

So! Are we going to see pics of the new room and Jubilee? :D

And I’m glad you all liked the jokes. Sorry about the keyboard, Kelley. Really I am :P

  71. NM–

I wrote my first 8-10 books in various corners of our living room/dining room before I finally got an office when my daughter moved out. I understand. Finding space for my reference library was a real problem, not to mention office supplies.

The new room is bigger–but then stuff always seems to expand to fit or exceed the allotted space, doesn’t it?

I promise once the dust settles to take pictures and figure out how to upload them to my laptop. I know it can’t be that hard–

Speaking of pictures, I loved yours, Caron. I love the Rockies!

    Alexis

  72. Alexis, Yeah, Colorado was a fabulous time! Work has been really really crazy, so I am finding myself sitting and staring at the pics – just to escape and unwind.
Thanks for answering the questions. You know we love to get insider info!! Not that you really told us alot, …. Except that we will be told more later.. sigh.. It’s so hard waiting, ya know. We want to know it all.

DJ, I’m glad the barrier going down wasn’t to big of a mess. Don’t strain anything important helping Alexis. ;-)

    NM, love the jokes! Thanks!

  73. Oh, before I forget. I don’t know if Seattle carries the same stuff we do, but the Starbucks in our area now have Snickerdoodles! Someone should tell Blake! Or, DJ, you could just get a couple and show up munching on one. They’re REALLY good.

  74. Ok, checking in from my writing retreat…deciding on dinner right now. I’m jealous about the movers…I’d love a Paladin helping me with my next move.

Brandy – congrats on the new little girl.

NM those jokes are super funny and I need to forward to a couple of the other writers here…could you send to me?

I’m prepping to hear the results of them reading my work…will NOT slit my wrists…but these folks have fine fine minds.

    Better go…they’re done reading. (g)

Will check in again in a couple days.

Bonnie (have a great weekend everyone!)

  75. hey all just wanted to see what everyone was up to Strohs whatcha doing? NM loved the jokes have you any more questions about my friend Jake Bonnie good luck & keep us informed
